Join our Volunteer, Air Force Veteran, Peer Support Specialist, and Writer/Author Steven Bates TONIGHT for "Mid-Week Musings!" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, sponsored and presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).
We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

TONIGHT's Topic: "Courage - Lessons from a Lion"

"Ahh, the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz. All he dreamed of was having courage! But let's talk about the actor that played the Cowardly Lion, as well as Zeke the farmhand, in the classic movie.

Born on this day, August 13th, 1895, in New York City, Irving Lahrheim, or Bert Lahr, as he is better known as, gave us a memorable character in the Cowardly Lion that dreamed, and sang, of having courage. What most people don't know about Bert Lahr is that he was a Navy Veteran, serving during World War I with the final rank of Seaman Second Class, a feat that showed he had courage in his real life unlike his character so well loved by film goers everywhere. As the Cowardly Lion, Bert Lahr taught us a lot about courage and standing up for yourself. His character has been analyzed, adored, and given accolades over the years."

Courage in mental health is the strength and willingness to face challenges, even when experiencing fear, pain, or discomfort. It involves being open about one's struggles, seeking help, and taking steps towards healing and recovery. This can include acknowledging difficult emotions, challenging negative thoughts, and persevering through adversity.
