Join Steven, Friends, and Warriors For Life TONIGHT for "Coping by Comedy!"

Drop in TONIGHT with Volunteer, Air Force Veteran, Peer Support Specialist, and Writer/Author Steven Bates filling in for Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

"Melvin James Kaminsky, born on this date in 1926 on a kitchen table in Brooklyn, New York, grew up to be a short, often sick, young man that was bullied by his peers relentlessly.  At age nine, after seeing a comedy movie, he decided from then on he would go into the entertainment industry and the rest is history.  Not only was he taught drums by the incomparable Buddy Rich at age 14, but by age 16, he had entered the stand-up comedy field as well, filling in for an ill master of ceremonies at an event he was drumming at.  Melvin entered the Army at age 18, (drafted) and served as a field artillery observer and a combat engineer, participating in the Battle of the Bulge.  After the war ended, Melvin, who had by this time changed his name to Mel Brooks, served his final days in the military in the Special Services as a comedian and entertainer.  Mel Brooks learned early on to cope with distress with comedy, and that helped his PTSD and depression immensely.  Mel then shared with the world his comedic genius and the world has been a better place ever since.  Mel Brooks taught the world to use comedy as a coping skill, bringing laughter and merriment to despair and depression."
